It also offers a variety of wildlife, species of birds, and vegetation.

Leaving the busier Everest Base Camp Trek route, you can embark on an exotic, less crowded trekking route with us on our 13 days Everest Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek. This trekking has equally rewarding mountain views, rich Sherpa culture, and stunning alpine lakes.

Here’s a comprehensive overview of this iconic trek:

Trek Route Overview

Our Everest Gokyo Lake Renjo Pass trek starts in Lukla after your link flight from Kathmandu. The real adventure of the journey starts in Lukla, a Sherpa settlement village with an airport, lodges, shops, cafes, etc.

The trail leads from Lukla and passes through beautiful villages such as Phakding and Monjo en route to Namche Bazaar. Namche Bazaar is a very famous and busy commercial town in Everest Trek, known as the “gateway to Mount Everest." The path diverts towards Thame village from Namche Bazaar. Thame village has a famous monastery with Sherpa culture. The trekking continues to Gokyo Valley, passing by Marlung, Lungden village, and crossing over Renjo Pass (5,360 m). The Renjo Pass top offers breathtaking and incredible views of Mount Everest, Nagzompa Glacier, Gokyo Lakes, and the valley. The views are priceless and can’t express much in words.

Then climb Gokyo Ri for the views before trekking down to join the main trail to Everest Base Camp Trek.

Namche Bazaar - A Gateway to Mount Everest

Namche Bazaar is one of the biggest villages, and its significance lies in the Everest region. It is known as the “gateway to Mount Everest". It is a tourist hub and trading centre in the Everest region. This village is the ‘outpost’ for trekkers and mountaineers who are ascending by this way to tap some high peaks. Namche Bazaar is a very famous place on the Everest Trek. Namche Bazaar has many facilities such as big hotels, restaurants, supermarket stores, trekking gear shops, ATMs, bakeries, health posts, etc. The Sherpa Museum in Namche reflects on the local culture, history, and ancestry of mountaineering. Namche Bazaar also offers great views of Mt. Thamserku and Mt. Kwande. On the hike on acclimatization day at Namche Bazaar, everyone enjoys the spectacular views of Mt. Everest and its surrounding peaks with natural greenery.

Thame Village

Thame village is another of the biggest settlements in the Everest region, apart from Khumjung and Kunda Village. Thame is a beautiful village with farming land and a natural environment. The village is also known for its centuries-old monastery, which carries much religious and cultural value for the local Sherpas. There are so many famous Sherpa mountaineers from this village. Apa Sherpa, one of the famous climbers who climbed Mount Everest 22 times, is from this village. The village displays the way of life for traditional Sherpa, consisting of stone dwellings decorated with prayer flags and nestled between magnificent mountains.

View from Renjo Pass Top

The outstanding panoramic views that are offered from Renjo La Pass top, we can't express in words. It is such a magnificent view over Mount Everest with its glaciers, lakes, and valleys. The Renjo top makes you feel how lucky you are to witness the 360-degree mountain view. The pass also offers a glimpse of the remote valley of Nangpa La and beyond, towards the Tibetan plateau.

Useful Info

Altitude Sickness during Everest Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek

You have to be aware of altitude sickness during the Everest Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek. Altitude sickness is not something of a big concern because our guide will also make sure everyone in the group is doing fine. Even though our Everest Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek itinerary has acclimatization days, do know the following things to avoid it from your side:

Climb high and sleep low.

Do not ascend more than 500 meters in a day, and maintain your pace.

Eat fresh food as much as possible to stay away from an upset stomach.

Drink lots of water daily to keep yourself hydrated. A dehydrated body is more prone to altitude sickness.

Do not consume alcohol or smoke.

  • We had a great time in Nepal

We had a great time in Nepal. This time we trekked Gokyo Valley and Renjo la Pass in the Mt. Everest region.   Everything was perfectly organized. For me, it was already the third tour with Nepal Gateway Team and it will certainly be followed by many more. It is a great country, a beautiful landscape, and very hospitable people. Travel the land and you will not regret a day.

  • He was always respectful of us and other trekkers and we enjoyed his company.

Raj was friendly and helpful from the moment we met him at Kathmandu airport.  It was our first trip to Nepal and it was great to have his guidance.  He organized our trek and the flight to Lukla and made sure we had everything we needed.

We walked with Raj and a lovely young porter, Rudra, to Gokyo Lakes and over Renjo Pass; spectacular country and friendly open people. Raj loves his country and takes great delight in being able to answer any question you can throw at him.

We appreciated his advice and never felt that he was intrusive, he was always respectful of us and other trekkers and we enjoyed his company.  Late in the trek, Ros was hit with a nasty dose of Nepalese belly and had to be evacuated by helicopter to Kathmandu. Raj managed the evacuation very professionally and the stress of the episode was much diminished by his competency. The helicopter flight was great! A night in hospital resolved the issue and we were soon back on track and headed east to tea country around Ilam for some rest and recuperation. When we returned three weeks later we met up with him again in Kathmandu and Raj was kind enough to take us sightseeing, helped out with packing when it was time to leave, and made sure we got to the airport without too much hassle. He is a nice man, you will like him. Thanks, Raj, it was a great holiday!
